Hello to all you light-hanging, present-wrapping, deal-finding, family-pleasing, chestnut-roasting, stocking-stuffing, hey-wait-Christmas-is-still-5-weeks-away enthusiasts!  I can't recall a time in my life where I walked into people's homes and thought to myself "Did I just wake from a coma and miss a month?" Seriously people, you can't wait until the turkey is in the garbage with raccoons feeding off the leftover meat you couldn't carve out of the carcass? you HAD to decorate the house before it even turned December? As if this is the only thing that will bring you joy is to pretend Christmas is every day from November 28-January 17. A study should be done. With that said...In lieu of a 337 Wall update, here's a hanging tree from Mod A Go Go that actually looked cool.


Getting to events over the next two weeks, first up will be the Geek Show Podcast taking over Brewvies for their monthly movie night. The double feature this month will be Night Breed and Near Dark, presented in part by Uinta. The films are free, but the food and drinks are not. Remember to tip your waitstaff.


On Wednesday, December 3, the Salt Lake County Bicycle Advisory Committee will be meeting at the County Building (2001 South State Street) to discuss a brainstorming session. This will include topics such as safety and awareness, as well a future plans for the green bikes around the city. To get in on this and get more details, check out their Facebook event link. 


On Thursday, December 4, The Beehive Bazaar returns to Utah County. One of the area's premiere crafting events, the three-day extravaganza has moved to The Riverwoods to accommodate far more vendors who will be selling and showcasing an array of crafted goods and services. You can check out the Bazaar's website for a near-complete list of people attending the completely free event, and see what you might be able to find for a last-minute holiday item.


Meanwhile, for those of you looking for some standup comedy in Ogden, Weber State will be hosting an evening of local comedians in the D3 ballroom, featuring the returning Andy Gold to close out the evening. This event is totally free to attend and even comes with refreshments for the night.


Also on Thursday, The Red Rockettes will be hosting one of the few derby games you'll see in the winter as their inner-squad teams, the Black Hearts and the Cherry Bombs, will face-off in a friendly competition. For those of you craving derby and can't wait until spring, this is your fix. Tickets are just $10, the game will kick off at 7:30 p.m.


On Friday, December 5, we've got a couple more events to discuss, starting with the Holiday Craft Market. The City Arts Council will take over Finch Lane for the next two and a half weeks to present their own array of artists, selling goods for possible holiday gifts. It will all kick off on the Holiday Gallery Stroll at 6 p.m.


Meanwhile up in Farmington, the 2014 Utah Winter Faire will take over the Legacy Events Center from December 5-7. This is a chance for both fantasy and steampunk fans to get their geek on as the faire will celebrate both genres side-by-side (with occasional crossing of the streams). Tickets run anywhere between $7-35, depending on what you're looking to experience. Check out their website for full details.


In Provo, we'll see the launch of the Provo Yacht Club. What the hell is this, you may be asking? It's basically a group of people who love dance and electronica music, but would love to jam to it and present it in a very different, very alternative style than what you're used to at other dance clubs.The group will take over the freshly renovated and now open dance hall, The Clubhouse (1644 S State Street), this Friday night for their inaugural party. Go check it out.


And then over at Bourbon House will be the Fifth Annual Prohibition Repeal Day Party. There really isn't much to describe for this party, it's just a cool reason to go get drunk at their bar. The place will turn into a speakeasy, and you are encouraged to dress in your finest 1920's garb. Drop in, say "cheerio" and have a pint with your fellow drinkers.


On Saturday, December 6, the first of three events we'll highlight is The Bboy Federation's art show: They Reminisce. This is a pretty cool and unique showcase where the members of the performance competition group put a focus on the art and culture of hip hop. The event will be completely free to attend at Studio Elevn, check out their Facebook event for more details.


Also next Saturday, Captain Captain Studios will be holding an open studio sale, featuring all their artists and featuring Lindsay Frei and Sonja Blackham selling artwork in select spaces. This is one of the few opportunities a year to come check out the work being created behind these closed doors, and it usually turns into a cool little gathering. Go check it out, totally free to attend.


The following week is mostly comprised of pageants, which you really don't want to know about, so we'll focus on the few cool things taking place. Starting with Hip Hop Roots SLC holding their last event of 2014. The event will come complete with music from Lost The Artist, Scenic Byway, TheAstroknots, Gentry Fox, Khensu, Dj Nizzle and more, along with artwork being created live, giveaways and other events. All totally free to attend!


Getting back to roller derby, many of you may not be aware that there's been some changes at The Derby Depot, one of the few homes to roller derby in SLC that isn't owned by a giant corporation. The building has changed hands in the leasing, and with it comes a new contract and items that need funding. Please, head out on Thursday, December 11, and support their cause by keeping The Derby Depot alive and active.


Back in late October, my blog did a feature on The Couch Series, a video program shot in Provo featuring local musicians. The show will be celebrating it's one-year anniversary in style by taking over Muse Music on Friday, December 12. The evening will feature interviews and live music from Coin in the Sea, Bat Manors and (my new favorite band name for the year) Volcano Bay Ragdoll Factory. Tickets are just $5, and the doors will open at 8 p.m.


On Saturday, December 13, we'll have a pair of events for you to check out, starting with the 6th Annual Art Adoption at Photo Collective Studios. This is a cool event where dozens of artists will showcase their artwork for you that they've created throughout the year, with the artist receiving 95% of the proceeds and no additional fees. The event is totally free to attend and most of the artwork has been marked down, so there's a chance for you to snag something awesome from a high-profile artist in SLC.


And finally, for all you cosplayers looking for something to do in December, Area 51 will play host to the Cosplay Winter Ball. It's basically a giant dance party for costumed guests, complete with prices and crowns to be won. Check out the poster below for additional info.
