JFK: Never Forget

I was walking down the hall in grade school; 4th grade, lunch period. Marty Muhar, who went home for lunch, came in and casually said, “They shot Kennedy.” ---

Nobody knew what he meant.

All of the school was gathered in the little auditorium, maybe 70 of us or fewer.

The black & white TV stared back at us.

Teachers were sobbing and we sat there scared.

Then, Walter Cronkite came on, looked up; he, too, wiping tears. He pulled his glasses down and told us all President Kennedy had just died.

We were sent home.
