I was walking down the hall in grade school; 4th grade, lunch period. Marty Muhar, who went home for lunch, came in and casually said, “They shot Kennedy.” ---

Nobody knew what he meant.

All of the school was gathered in the little auditorium, maybe 70 of us or fewer.

The black & white TV stared back at us.

Teachers were sobbing and we sat there scared.

Then, Walter Cronkite came on, looked up; he, too, wiping tears. He pulled his glasses down and told us all President Kennedy had just died.

We were sent home.

Last week, I asked readers to submit any questions they had for U.S. Rep. Burgess Owens, so we can print them for him. The reason, ostensibly, is because Owens hasn't been forthcoming when it comes to issues that Utahns want to know.
