Which is scarier: a giant shark, an internet boogeyman or the Ku Klux Klan? This week's new releases give you a chance to find out.

A prehistoric super-shark brings silly summer movie satisfaction in The Meg (pictured).  Distinctive cultural components can't make up for a predictable plot arc and enigmatic characterizations in The Cakemaker.

MaryAnn Johanson finds that even adorable doggos can't connect the various inert tales in Dog Days.

In this week's feature review, David Riedel raves over the mix of dark comedy and ferociously timely observation that Spike Lee brings to the true story of BlacKkKlansman.

Also opening this week, but not screened for press: teens are threatened by a malevolent force in Slender Man.
