Sundance-satellite “fill-in-the-blank Dances” have come and gone over the past decade, but a couple of them remain. And in recreation-mad Utah, it’s fitting that one of them is a festival devoted to action-sports cinema.
The 10th annual X-Dance takes up residence in Salt Lake City during film-festival week, providing six days of screenings and discussions for adrenaline junkies. Premiere films include local filmmakers Stan Evans and Jeremy Miller’s female snowboarder showcase Stance, local skier Blake Nyman in Contact, and Bill Kerig’s adaptation of his own big-mountain book The Edge of Never. Presentations include a cinematography workshop featuring Oscar-nominee Don Burgess, and an address by winter-sports filmmaking legend Warren Miller (who will also receive a lifetime achievement award).
Tickets and full-festival passes are still available. Check out the festival Website for a complete schedule of films and events, and spend part of your festival week letting the mountain come to you.
