I admit to being a World Market enthusiast. Our dining table was purchased at World Market. Wine glasses: World Market. Bar stools: World Market. Place mats: World Market. Coffee table: World Market. You get the idea. Lately, though, I’ve been haunting the food aisles of this home and houseware emporium. There, I’ve discovered an appetizing array of exotic foodstuffs from around the globe, as well as the furniture and dinnerware to eat them on.

My favorite pasta is papparedelle, but I don’t always have time to make it from scratch at home, and it’s expensive in most specialty markets. Not so at World Market, where you can pick up a 17.6 ounce package of wide dried egg papparedelle noodles for $2.79, available plain, basil or saffron flavors. Other quality World Market pastas include Italian Dalla Costa Fusilloni (jumbo-size fusilli), 17.6 ounces for $1.25, and Gia Russa potato gnocchi, 1 pound for $2.69. You can make a simple pomodoro sauce for your pasta utilizing imported Italian La Valle San Marzano tomatoes, priced at $2.24 per can and a 1-liter bottle of all-natural extra virgin olive (70 percent Greek/30 percent Italian) oil for only $6.29. Flavor your sauce with whole bay leaves from Turkey, priced at 99 cents for 7 grams. Imported spices at World Market—from Indian curries to exotic African peppers—are a real bargain compared to what you’d pay for McCormick and other such brands at the local supermarket.

Other current World Market favorites of mine include Asian Passage Korma Curry Sauce ($2.69), Canterbury Naturals Classic Crepe mix ($2.69), Café Du Monde beignet mix ($3.14), Robertson’s lemon curd ($3.59) and Beretta superfine Arborio risotto rice (2 pounds $3.59). As one of our local food purveyors is known to say: “Hey, eat!”
