Scott Hagen and graduate conductors Ken Gondor and Brek Mangelson lead the Wind Ensemble in an evening of rollicking military marches, snappy reels and gentle love songs. The concert features Malcolm Arnold’s Four Scottish Dances, in which the band imitates bagpipes and plays toe-tapping “Scotch snap” rhythms. The program also includes Ron Nelson’s sparkling Savannah River Holiday, Holst’s First Suite in E-flat for Military Band—one of the cornerstone masterworks of the concert band repertory—and Daniel Montoya Jr.’s …My Consciousness, written last year as a loving homage to the composer’s wife.
