The holiday season is a great time to give of yourself, even if all you can give is the coat off your back—or any coat, even that Mister Rogers cardigan that’s been collecting dust in your closet. There are two great opportunities coming up to drop off warm winter clothing for the homeless, including the Coats for Cocoa exchange next week. You also won’t want to miss a free screening of the powerful documentary Two Spirits in celebration of Transgender Awareness Month.

Community Coat Exchange
Friday, Nov. 25

Come out of the cold and give some warmth at the Community Coat Exchange, sponsored by the Crossroads Urban Center and the Blue Sky Institute. Any individual can come and pick up or exchange a coat if they need it—no questions asked. Donations are also encouraged and will go to the homeless and low-income population, or will be sold in the Crossroads Urban Center thrift store to help fund its mission of helping disadvantaged Utahns. Salt Lake City Main Library, 210 E. 400 South, 801-403-0121, Nov. 25, 10 a.m.- 2 p.m., www.CoatExchange.org

Two Spirits Film Screening
Tuesday, Nov. 29

The film Two Spirits presents the story of Fred Martinez, a Navajo youth considered a nádleehí, or a person with a male body but a unique feminine nature. Martinez, sadly, had little time to embrace this unique, cultural trans identity before becoming one of this country’s youngest hate-crime victims, killed at the age of 16. The film is free and open to the public, with a panel discussion afterward. Olpin Union Theater, 200 S. Central Campus Drive, University of Utah, 801-587-7973, Nov. 29, 6-8 p.m., SA.Utah.edu/LGBT

Coats for Cocoa
Wednesday, Nov. 30

The Salt Lake Community Social Work Club is offering folks who donate to their winter-clothing drive a tasty cup of hot cocoa to wash down the good karma that comes with giving to the less fortunate. The group is looking for all new and used winter-clothing items to donate to the Salvation Army. Salt Lake Community College Redwood Campus, 4600 S. Redwood Road, 801-957-4827, Nov. 30, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
