The Tony Award-winning theater festival returns with an eclectic lineup. This year’s productions include the satirical Comedy of Errors and the historical Henry V. The festival provides a good mix of works by the great playwright as well as modern works such as Mitch Albom’s Tuesdays With Morrie.
In The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged), playwrights Adam Long, Daniel Singer and Jess Winfield translated and condensed Shakespeare’s 37 plays and 154 sonnets into a high-energy spectacle lasting just 97 minutes. The play’s creative interpretation of the revered texts has made it a hit among critics and audiences around the world. Winfield justifies modifying the classics by theorizing “every theatergoer, deep in his heart, wants to see Shakespeare ripped to shreds; we fulfill that fantasy,” so Shakespeare purists may want to be cautious. The Utah Shakespearean Festival has someone for everyone, making it an experience worth the drive.
