If you want to learn how incomprehensive America´s immigration system is, you won’t want to miss a discussion Thursday with Vivek Malhotra of the American Civil Liberties Union’s national Immigrants’ Rights Project. For the weekend, get your green on by checking out the Living and Building Green Expo, and early next week join a discussion on teen dating violence, where a survivor of a violent relationship will tell her story.

The U.S. Immigration Policy
Thursday, Oct. 15
ACLU immigrants’ advocate Vivek Malhotra will be giving the lowdown on how federal immigration policy will affect the undocumented population in the United States as well as other issues relating to immigrants’ rights. The discussion will also be looking at the debate here with the Legislature’s immigration bill, Senate Bill 81, and other ways in which Utah can impact the national debate.

Living & Building Green Expo
Saturday, Oct. 17
If your home-supply shopping list includes photovoltaic panels, tankless water heaters and reclaimed hardwoods, then you’ll need to plan an excursion to Park City’s Living & Building Green Expo. Even if you don’t plan any projects immediately, it can’t hurt to learn more about building green. Meet green contractors, learn about alternative-energy rebates and also the newest line of alternative-energy cars—all for just $2, which includes free admission for the kiddies.

Teen Dating Violence
Tuesday, Oct. 20
Violent relationships can be dangerous power struggles that often leave one partner trapped in a cycle of guilt and violence. Statistics have shown that such violence hits one in every three teenagers. That’s why the YWCA and the Family Justice Center community forums, such as this one, are important for learning how to spot trouble relationships and get the victim help. The talk is free and will include a guest speaker talking about their escape from a violent relationship.
