You asked Kyle Wulle in the Five Spot [Nov. 19, City Weekly], “How can unions help restore the American economy?” I am a Communications Workers of America union member for 10 years. I am not sure unions are going fix any problems with the economy. They are responsible for me having a good-paying job, but that’s about it.
Wulle’s assumptions about taxes make me laugh. The top 1 percent of earners pay 40 percent of all taxes (click on the National Taxpayers Union link “Who Pays Income Taxes? See Who Pays What” at NTU.org). Making it more fair would mean they should pay less, not more. Let everyone pay the same 15 percent tax—that would be fair.
I am not in the top 25 percent of earners, but I would like to make more than I do now.
Don’t hate the people who make a lot of money—strive to be like them, and then you can pay half of every dollar you make in taxes. If it were not for the rich people, we would all pay more in taxes.
