Youth Theatre, an education and performance program offered through the University of Utah, is putting on The Boxcar Children—adapted from Gertrude Chandler Warner’s original children’s novel that spawned the ongoing series of books now more than 60 years running—is fun for the whole family. Four orphaned siblings run away and hide in an abandoned boxcar rather than be split up into different foster homes. It’s a touching tale of family togetherness and plucky youthful determination.

The Boxcar Children embodies Youth Theatre’s stated mission and values. Teaching confidence, self-reliance and collaboration through the theater arts in after-school and summer-session classes and performances, Youth Theatre has age-appropriate classes for kids up to age 15.

The best part, though, is when they get to showcase their skills and talents for the public in full-scale production like this one. So take the kids out to a show. Maybe they’ll be inspired to take to the stage themselves.

The Boxcar Children @ Kingsbury Hall, 1395 E. Presidents Circle, University of Utah, 801-581-7100, March 24-26, $5 for children, $10 for adults. KingsburyHall.org, KingTix.com
