Trip to Bountiful
With the exception of Mandarin restaurant (348 E. 900 North), Bountiful doesn’t normally spring to mind as a great dining destination. But a new influx of interesting eateries is beginning to change that. Mo’ Bettah Steaks is certainly worth dropping in to for Hawaiian-style “steak plates,” as is its strip-mall neighbor, Xtreme Sushi (both located at 273 W. 500 South). But the most enticing eatery to land in Bountiful in a long time is Sego Lily Café. Situated in a charming old brick house, this is Caffe Molise owner Fred Moesinger’s second restaurant effort. Sego Lily Café features “new American Classic and Italian” cuisine, along with a very interesting wine list. At lunchtime, the focus is on salads, sandwiches and pastas such as butternut-squash ravioli and penne di Caprino. Dinnertime brings entrees such as brie-baked cod, ground sirloin meatloaf, Asian short-rib pot roast, barbecue pork ribs, and pesto chicken. Get Some Class
Lorken Food Finery in West Jordan’s Gardner Village (1100 W. 7800 South) is now taking reservations for its popular cooking classes at 801-938-1982. Upcoming classes include, on March 5, “Tricks of the Trade: How to Make Homemade Rolls” with Christie of The Table Runner blog. Then on March 12 it’s “The Miracle Pan—Cast Iron Skillet,” where, for $40 (including the cost of the pan), you’ll learn proper care and use of cast iron, how to cook a 45-second egg, make traditional cornbread and cook a chocolate applesauce “snack ’n cake.” There’s more information online at LorkenFoodFinery.com.
