Good News/Bad News
Good news for the legions of lovers of the California-based food and beverage store chain Trader Joe’s: The first Utah location will be opening in Salt Lake City at 634 E. 400 South (in the Family Center) later this year. Since 1958, Trader Joe’s has been supplying customers with innovative, hard-to-find food and drink items at fair prices. Employees sport brightly colored Hawaiian-style shirts, and each Trader Joe’s store has a decidedly light-hearted theme, which is part of the appeal. The bad news is that, since this is Utah, you won’t be able to purchase booze at the Salt Lake City Trader Joe’s, including the now-infamous Two Buck Chuck Trader Joe’s is so well-known for. Where Are the Wings?
Where are Utah’s best chicken wings? At Wingfest, that’s where. On Saturday, June 16, Beehive Sport & Social Club will host the first-annual Wingfest to crown Utah’s Best Chicken Wing. The competition will be held at the Batters Up Sports Bar (1717 S. Main), from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., pitting three of Utah’s most prominent wing joints against each other: Trolley Wing Company, Wing Coop and Wing Nutz. Wings will be judged in three categories: Traditional Buffalo, BBQ and Signature, and each person who attends the contest can help vote for the winners. Wingfest is open to the public, but pre-registration is required at BeehiveSports.com, or find Beehive Sport & Social Club on Facebook. You must be 21 or over to attend.
Havana Good Time
On Saturday, June 16, from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m., the Salt Lake City Marriott University Park (480 Wakara Way) will host Havana Nights, a tropical-themed outdoor summer party. Havana Nights will feature Cuban food stations, a bar and lounge, cigar vendors, live DJ and dancing, a specialty (cash bar) mojito station and a “best fedora” contest. All white attire is suggested, and the cost is $25 per person—21 and over only. The University Park Marriot is also offering a special room rate of $129 plus tax, which includes two Havana Nights tickets.
