It’s not how you’re supposed to experience a radio show: as a live stage performance broadcasting to local movie theaters throughout the country. But for the second year in a row, NPR’s This American Life will do just that.

Traditionally, This American Life is a weekly one-hour radio program of funny, surprising stories that just happen to be true. Stories such as one man’s quest to create the puppy channel or the Hasidic Jew who became an underground rock star, have created a cult following numbering into the millions. Translating that into a live stage show seems ridiculous but you can expect all the elements of the radio version as host Ira Glass orchestrates a real episode right before our eyes live … broadcast at a theater near you.

Honestly, it is a pretty groundbreaking idea. But it shouldn’t be too surprising since the radio show has never been conventional. It even seems like a bizarrely natural progression.

This American Life—Live! @ various movie theater locations, Thursday, April 23, 6 p.m. ThisAmericanLife.org for info and tickets.
