Regarding your article on animal activists [“Animal Activists Fight For Their Own Rights,” May 13, City Weekly]: Animal activists should help animals closer to home.

Every year, thousands of pets that once loved, and were loved by us are killed by animal control. If animal activists really want to make a difference, they should help the Humane Society’s pet-adoption program and raise money to lower adoption and neutering costs. Loved pets in homes encourage compassion for animals.
