“You son of a motherless goat!” Name that movie. “Looks like I picked the wrong week to stop sniffing glue!” You can say that again. Name the movie, and the year.

I’m not giving any free handouts—you’ll just have to stop by Signed & Numbered and check out this month’s print show. And, here’s a hint in the show title: These Are the Quotes From Our Favorite ‘80s Movies.

As fun and poppy as the theme, the prints carry out their anticipated purpose of drawing a laugh and making a reference. Like a nice summer cocktail, it’s light, tasty and sends you reeling down memory lane. Sloth, Doc and Jack come to mind. Some prints offer but a clue, a scene or a face, while others broadcast the line, loud and clear; either way, it feels like a visual pop-quiz. Clean and simple is Patrick Phegley’s homage to The Shining; on the other end is “Smell Bad,” by DWITT that unabashedly uses expressively stinky lettering and a character close-up—and it’s quite a gas.

Just looking at the work brings a chuckle and makes you wonder if “kids these days” will experience the same mirth perusing the prints. There is a decade full of popular film to bring back from the dead. It’s an insiders club, one that includes The Outsiders, Teen Wolf and The Goonies—and now has the fine art mementos to show for it.
