Lisa Brady, owner of the Beehive Tea Room, says downtown has been “sanitized, corporatized, chain-storeized.”

I remember when I was a teenager this town was so much fun. … Now, I just feel like everything fun has gone away and the whole downtown is just a mall. I have nothing against malls. I think everything has a place. But if they want to make downtown unique, they should work on helping small business that are unique to Salt Lake City to survive, so someone who comes here from Minneapolis doesn’t say, “I went to Salt Lake and I went to the Gap.” … I knew this crazy artist guy who used to make shoes, beautiful shoes. I don’t know where any of those people are anymore. They’re all being driven out to different places.
