Ryen Schlegel, ticket vendor for ArtTix, would love to see Pete Ashdown win the senatorial race but doesn’t think he has a chance. Schlegel believes that Utahns will overlook current failures of the Republican Party (the increasing death tolls in Iraq, the Foley sex scandal) and vote for the perennial Orrin Hatch, simply because of his “Utah-ness.”



I think people here aren’t affected by [scandals]. In this state I don’t think it’s quite a matter of Republican vs. Democrat, but rather how Utahn a candidate is, and Orrin is just too Utahn. I think Orrin Hatch has been in office for so long and people are really comfortable with that. He’s like a sacred goat. The only thing that will make Orrin Hatch get out is Orrin Hatch. Unless his singing career takes off.
