South Salt Lake’s city council voted that only eight taverns may operate within city limits, deciding the move was needed to reduce crime in the area. City Weekly asked Travis Tanner of Tanner Frames what he thought of the policy:
I wonder if the council of South Salt Lake ever studied prohibition. Crime was highest during the ’30s! Prohibition set the precedent that if you try and take rights away, people are gonna circumvent them one way or another. Also, as a small business owner myself, I think it’s denying people the right to do business. I think there’s a better solution.
