With the high cost of food, many lower-income families are taking advantage of a Salt Lake City School District program offering children healthy free lunches in the city’s parks. Since the program doesn’t screen who takes part in it, a number of middle-class families have also taken advantage of the program. City Weekly asked Michelle Winberg of Esther’s Café if she thought the program should be only for lower-income families?

They should give it more to [people in] poverty. Because [with middle-class families], that’s my tax money going to people who already have money. We’re so concerned with helping the middle class, but we’re never going to get better until we help out the lower class. So I think they should be helped out first.
