With the FLDS crackdowns at the compound in Texas, critics say Utah Attorney General Mark Shurtleff is too soft on polygamist communities in Utah. Shurtleff reaffirmed he wouldn’t prosecute polygamy on its own unless there was related evidence of abuse. City Weekly asked Lina Recupero of Lina’s Dart Shop in South Salt Lake if this was sound policy or if law enforcement should start aggressively pursuing polygamists:

“I personally think what goes on in polygamist families is disgusting. I think the women are abused and that’s against the law. Children having sex at 13 and 14 years old is disgusting. Absolutely, I think they’re going too soft on them and that needs to be changed.”
