The City of Bountiful recently voted to start a mandatory recycling program for all residents beginning this December. Some citizens believe the added fees (expected to be an extra $36 a year) are too burdensome and unfairly force the residents into recycling. City Weekly asked graphic artist Bryan Wilson of downtown’s Modern8 if he thought recycling by mandate was fair:
I don’t know; if people [recycled on their own], then [city government] wouldn’t have to mandate it. I think environmental problems are pretty obvious so, if municipalities don’t do anything about it, and people don’t do anything about it—then nothing is going to change. Any economic situation or otherwise, the fix has always been headed by government and municipalities.
