Did Italians find it easy to confide in you?

I loved their openness and willingness to share. I met people in the park who would share their life story with me. I remember having a half-hour conversation with a man my first week in Italy, and all I said was “si.” I have no idea what he talked about but it didn’t matter because he felt comfortable telling it to me.
