The Nocturnal Prowl: New clubs spotted
The Green Pig (31 E. 400 South) is rising in the Cabana Clubs’s wake with the promise of several twists on the previous club’s offerings. Ninety percent of the furnishings and equipment are “reused, refurbished or remodeled,” according to owner Bridget Gordon (formerly of Port O’ Call), making the word “green” entirely appropriate. The Green Pig, with recently secured liquor license in hand, is embracing the eco-friendly walkable downtown ideal. This pub is slated to open the first week of August, so stop in after the Twilight series at the Gallivan Center, or anytime you’re strolling the neighborhood.

Swing Life Away: Piper Down’s new dance night
Salt City Swing has new digs! Kristin Buta, who runs the retro-dance group, recently relocated the weekly dance night from Club Vegas to Piper Down. Each Tuesday beginning at 10 p.m., SCS offers free dance lessons to help newbies learn rock steps and fancy dips. Artists as big as Austin “Ameripolitan” legend Dale Watson often add live music to the mix. If you have toe-tapping friends, but aren’t of a mind to make a dancin’ fool of your flat-footed self, poker is available in the back room with four tables ready to hone hot hands. Tuesday will be one of the more-hopping nights at this venue, so go (there early), Daddy-O.
We want to keep Utah up to speed on local nightlife. Submit tips about club openings, closures, remodels, special events and noteworthy changes to comments@cityweekly.net
