Structure

FRIDAY 10.2

Local galleries commonly present themed exhibits, but the theme of “structure” is a compositional element inherent in all art. Even in a seemingly random painting like a Jackson Pollock, shapes and patterns suggest themselves. This show, featuring 20 painters, foregrounds an element of artworks that usually remains subtle and discrete. And the Evergreen Framing Co. and Gallery in the Millcreek area is an ideal site for the show, since a framery provides structures in which artworks are mounted.

The participating artists have unique takes on the theme. Noted naturalist painter Carel Pieter Brest van Kempen will look at structure in the world of nature. Larry Clarkson brings design elements into the mix. Nathan Florence examines the structure of buildings that make up human life.

But Structure is about more than artistic composition. It’s also about structures that support the social fabric, and as such, part of the proceeds benefit Habitat for Humanity.

Structure @ Evergreen Framing Co & Gallery, 3295 S 2000 East, 801-467-8770, through Oct. 14.
