Almost a decade ago, singer/actor Steven Fales first found autobiographical humor and heartache in his confessional one-man show Confessions of a Mormon Boy. Nowadays, his new musical confection is suggesting that he’s in a more playful frame of mind.

Mormon American Princess pairs Fales with vocalist (and Fales’ Las Vegas high school classmate) Melissa Pace Tanner in a revue combining original songs with standards and Broadway showtunes to explore “our self-absorbed society.” He’s still finding inspiration in the life journey that took him from married Latter-day Saint to out “latter-gay saint,” as the titles of his musical numbers—including “The Excommunication Polka,” “Cult Rap” and “Mormon Broadway Medley”—might suggest; the playlist also features “I Don’t Know How to Love Him” and “Son of a Preacher Man.” Join Fales and Tanner for their high-energy adventures in sin and fabulousness.

Steven Fales: Mormon American Princess @ The Tavernacle, 201 E. Broadway, 801-519-8900, July 26, 7 p.m., $15.
