If spring finally manages to shake off the icy grip of winter, it will be a good weekend to enjoy great events for a cause. There is the World Fair Trade Day celebration at Ten Thousand Villages, biking and breweries for local nonprofits with the Tour de Brewtah, and a walk in the park to raise money to fight tuberous sclerosis.

Step Forward to Cure TSC Walkathon
Saturday, May 8
Get your walk on to help cure tuberous sclerosis, a genetic disorder that causes tumors to develop in vital organs and can cause seizures and autism in children. For a $25 registration fee, you can help raise money for medical research to fight this terrible illness.
Liberty Park, 600 E. 1000 South, May 8, 801-664-4811, registration at 10 a.m., two-mile walk starts 11 a.m. StepForwardToCureTSC.org

World Fair Trade Celebration
Saturday, May 8
Ten Thousand Villages is hosting a World Fair Trade Celebration replete with fair-trade goodies. There’s morning coffee from Café Ibis, brunch courtesy of Whole Foods and, in the afternoon, international music and dance performances. Close out the evening with some chocolate tasting. All proceeds help Ten Thousand Villages’ mission to offer Third World artisans a fair market in which to sell their works in the United States.
Ten Thousand Villages, 1941 S. 1100 East, May 8, 11 a.m.-6 p.m., 801-485- 8827, VillagesUtah.org

Tour de Brewtah
Saturday, May 8
This bike charity ride includes welcome checkpoints at four local breweries: Red Rock, Desert Edge, Squatters, and Uinta. If your ride is getting a little wobbly by the end, take comfort in the fact that your pedaling benefits six local charities, including HEAL Utah, Save Our Canyons, Fourth Street Clinic, Inclusion Center, Urban Village and Utahns Against Hunger. And remember: Wear a helmet.
