Some Things Are Certain

Kirk Jowers of the Hinckley Institute of Politics says that in the upcoming election, the outcomes are too close to call [“Outcome Not a Forgone Conclusion,” Letters, Oct. 4, City Weekly], including the Obama-Romney race.

Unfortunately, insofar as Utah voters are concerned, he is wrong. It is an absolute 100 percent certainty that Romney will win all of Utah’s electoral votes, unless the Earth is vaporized by an asteroid before the election. Jowers probably knows this, but has to play his role.

The presidential race in states like Utah is completely hijacked by the Electoral College, which no longer serves any purpose and should be abolished by constitutional amendment.

I will be voting, but insofar as the presidential race is concerned, I might as well vote for Clyde W. Buncombe.
