With the ghosts of the election season leaving us, it’s time to give thanks to the do-gooders in our community. This weekend, you can take part in a vegan Thanksgiving dinner fundraiser to support the Ching Farm Rescue & Sanctuary. Later, give thanks to the anti-nuclear enviro-activists HEAL Utah at their fall fundraiser party. Then, it’s time to throw yourself back into it by checking out a busy interim day at the Legislature.
Ching Farm Vegan Thanksgiving
Saturday, Nov. 10
Be grateful this year for the good-
hearted folks of the Ching Farm Rescue & Sanctuary nonprofit, who take in abused and abandoned farm animals and give them a happy, healthy retirement. For $27 in advance or $30 at the door, you can take part in a vegan feast and a silent auction, and hear words from Nathan Runkle, founder of nonprofit Mercy for Animals. Stuff yourself with some food for thought, as well as the sumptuous offerings of Cali’s Natural Foods, Vertical Diner, Sage’s Café and more. Wasatch Presbyterian Church, 1626 S. 1700 East, 801-446-7741,
Nov. 10, 5 p.m., ChingSanctuary.org
HEAL Utah Fall Party
Tuesday, Nov. 13
Join HEAL Utah for its sixth-annual Fall Party as they rally the troops against the proposed Green River nuclear reactor, which activists say is getting ever closer to leaving a glowing, hot mess all over Utah’s pristine canyon country. The talk also features a keynote from professor Dan McCool, author of River Republic. VIP tickets go for $100, and regular
tickets are $50; all tickets include tasty food from Rico’s. The State Room, 638 S. State, 801-355-5055, Nov. 13, 6:15-8:30 p.m., HEALUtah.org
