It's interesting how all the "gun people" talk about responsibility, care, safety, and the reality of owning a gun. There was no romance associated. No "aura." No fetish. Then along comes Ms. Oxborrow, Domestic Violence Advocate, whatever the heck that is, and she sells this great big mass of fantasy fear. "Oh, you'll LOSE YOUR SOUL!" Are you kidding me? She's saying that it's perfectly OK to get raped, robbed, and murdered, but JUST DON'T USE A GUN TO DEFEND YOUR LIFE! You'll LOSE YOUR SOUL! Do people like that even listen to themselves?
You grew up in a country where the elites watched the radical Socialist and Communist parties in Europe attack and destroy their countries. The leadership of England watched the Russian nobility get murdered by the Communist Revolution, which had a great deal of sympathy in the UK. So the British government decided to start taking away your firearms. They spend the intervening century propagandizing against civilian ownership of firearms and self-defense, and that pain you feel is the pain of learning to be a citizen instead of a subject. It is painful to learn to be free. It hurts to exercise muscles you didn't even know you had. Welcome to the club. It's a difficult burden to bear, being a citizen, but worth it.
