Ah, Utah—home of “you can’t make this crap up.” For more than 30 years, Salt Lake Acting Company’s annual follies have collected our state’s weirdness into a musical revue. And once again, it appears that Nancy Borgenicht and Allen Nevins will never need to worry about running out of material.

The 2010 installment bypasses any attempt at a connecting plot structure, opting instead to go the That Was the Year (Give or Take) That Was route. That means finding satire, bawdy humor and production numbers in such disparate local stories as Sarah Palin’s Costco book-signing, Utah House Majority Leader Kevin Garn’s hot tub fiasco, Orrin Hatch’s Hanukkah song and Rep. Jason Chaffetz’s crusade against airport full-body scans. A cast of local theater talent—including Voyeur veterans Alexis Baigue, Jeanette Puhich and Aaron Swenson—blows the lid off of it all, in a setting where bringing along your own bottle of wine for a theatrical picnic only enhances the fun.

Saturday’s Voyeur 2010 @ Salt Lake Acting Company, 168 W. 500 North, 801-363-7522, June 30-Sept. 5. $39-$54. SaltLakeActingCompany.org
