Kazuki Yamada makes his U.S. debut leading the Utah Symphony in a performance of Saint-Saëns’ Organ Symphony. The program also includes Mussorgsky’s “Night on Bald Mountain” and Glazunov’s “Symphony No. 5.” This sonic adventure of this concert then concludes by combining the powerful organ with the majestic forces of the orchestra in an evening of heroic and epic works.

Composed at the peak of his career, Saint-Saëns’ “Symphony No. 3,” commonly known as the “Organ Symphony,” has found its place as one of the only orchestral works featuring the organ in the standard repertory of symphonic literature. The aural spectacle of this piece includes the entire orchestra, piano using two and four hand passages, and the “king of the instruments,” the pipe organ. The sheer power and versatility of the organ is showcased throughout this sublime work, played by Richard Elliott, principal organist for the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.
