“Where’s the studio?” asked oil painter Daniel Ramjoue’s son upon his first visit to a friend’s house. Apparently, he learned, it’s not ordinary for every family to have an art studio. But it is in this family: Three generations and five artists will show in Relative at Patrick Moore Gallery this month.

The matriarch, grandmother Donna Frazier, has exhibited watercolors for 30 years, her artistic talents passed down to subsequent generations as subtly as her brush strokes. Her youngest brother, Stan, is an accomplished ceramicist, as is her eldest son, Kevin (whose work is pictured), who helped develop Salt Lake Community College’s art appreciation and pottery classes. Donna’s eldest granddaughter, recent University of Utah art graduate Colour Maisch (holding the family’s coolest name) works in mixed media. Finally, Daniel Ramjoue married Donna’s youngest daughter, Bryn; he’ll show vibrant oil paintings of oversize vegetables.

Their methods may be as divergent as a Cubist family tree, but art is the tie that binds.
