Get your planting on this weekend with the help of artist Sheryl Crow, who will assist Tree Utah volunteers before her upcoming concert. If you can’t make that show, you can attend the “Barking With the Stars” animal talent show to benefit a local animal shelter. Later, you can track the progress state regulators are making in rewriting prescription-drug labels in the interests of consumer safety.

Bring Back the Natural Beauty Tour With Sheryl Crow
Friday, June 24

This week, you could rub shoulders and dig dirt with Grammy-winning performer and environmental advocate Sheryl Crow, who is teaming up with Tree Utah to plant trees in Sugar House Park. As part of Tom’s of Maine “Bring Back the Natural Beauty” tour, volunteers can help plant trees in Sugar House Park and possibly win tickets to the Sheryl Crow concert later that evening at Red Butte Garden.

Dog Days of Summer
Sunday, June 26

If you’ve got animals with talent, dogs that can bark out a hit, or a cat that can … well, be adorable or attack a ball of string with gusto, then bring them to the Barking With the Stars animal talent show and a silent auction. Proceeds from the event go to help the Park City Friends of Animals nonprofit animal-rescue shelter. Enjoy live music and tasty fare at Heber’s Sidetrack Cafe, while celebrity judges Simon Howl and Sharon Ozbarker hand out prizes to the most talented pets.

State Board of Pharmacy Meeting
Tuesday, June 28

Utah is a state with a pill-popping problem—that’s why the 2011 Legislature passed a resolution to craft pill-bottle- label warnings to better convey the dangers of such abuses. Come to this week’s pharmacy-board meeting and learn more about the issues and what progress is being made in the new label design.
Utah Department of Commerce, 160 E. 300 South, 801-530-6628, June 28, 8 a.m.-1 p.m.
