Have a beer with Planned Parenthood Action Committee this Thursday to learn about citizen lobbying and volunteer opportunities at the Legislature. Then, if you believe that humans do have on impact on climate change, put your actions where your values are and rally with social-media lobbyists. Finally, on Sunday, watch theater and politics mesh.

Planned Parenthood Action Committee Volunteer Night
Thursday, Feb. 18
Learn the who and what of citizen lobbying from the pros. PPAC will be quaffing some drinks in the spirit of democracy in Trolley Square. Hear what bills they’re following and how you can get involved. While you´re at it, try your hand at Sex Jeopardy.

300 People Against HJR 12
Friday, Feb. 19
Citizen lobbyists used Facebook to create the group “300 People Against HJR 12” and are rallying against a bill at the Legislature that is “a radical and wrong statement on climate change.” The bill, which essentially states that global warming is not caused by man and carbon should be regulated as a pollutant, has already passed the House. If it passes the Senate, it will become an official position of the Legislature. The bill is currently waiting a hearing in the Senate Workforce Services and Community and Economic Development Committee.

Political Forum at Salt Lake Acting Company
Sunday, Feb. 21
Inspired by the political undercurrents of SLAC’s Too Much Memory—a modern adaptation of Sophocles’ Antigone—this forum poses the questions: At what extreme does civil disobedience become terrorism? And, when does rule of law turn into tyranny? Former Salt Lake City Mayor Rocky Anderson, Tim DeChristopher and others will be on the panel, while KRCL’s Troy Williams will moderate.
