Last season, Pioneer Theatre Company premiered playwright Bess Wohl’s Touch(ed), the story of two very different sisters attempting to reconnect. In Wohl’s latest premiere, In, the attempted connections come from three characters who initially appear to have even less in common.

Aspiring novelist Sara has spent five years trying to finish a book, but she needs to support herself by working as an English tutor for the children of well-to-do families. Pammie is a mother with Ivy League ambitions for her son, Jordy, and she thinks Sara is just the person to help him get into Harvard. And Jordy, meanwhile, finds himself wondering about many of the pressures he feels from his family. The interaction between these three characters finds them exploring the intersection between what they want and what they think they’re supposed to want, in a script that—in screenplay form—was once on the list of Hollywood’s best unproduced screenplays.
