This is a one-man show, but only in the literal sense. Collin Noortmann Chandler is a single given name, but three artistic personae. He reserves the signature “C. N. Chandler” for the work the he is generally known for, representational contemporary with metaphoric themes. (Eccles patrons will recall his large watercolors of Weber County gates and locks.) “C. Noortmann C.” paints and signs the abstract or confrontational ideas that won’t be suppressed. Finally, “Collin N. C.” signs the primitive or playful notions that childishly crave attention. Collin’s cartoonish “Swimmers” series may appear to be sperm, but he assures they are really concrete. This exhibit will be the first time work from all three will be shown together. We’ll see if they can play nice.
