Get hands-on with Peaceful Uprising & Raqib

This weekend is packed with training and inspiration for the local activist wanting to make an impact at home and abroad. On Friday, attend a lecture by global-peace advocate Jamila Raqib. On Saturday, get more hands-on with Peaceful Uprising and Raqib at an activists workshop that will include a free film screening. Looking ahead, Salt Lake City is looking for volunteers the first weekend of May to help promote an event encouraging a walkable, bikeable, car-free downtown experience.

Nonviolent Struggle: Past Use & Future Potential
Friday, April 12

The Albert Einstein Institution studies the world’s most divisive conflicts to advance peace and democracy through research and advocacy of nonviolent action. Come hear the organization’s director, Jamila Raqib, reflect on past victories of nonviolent movements and how to apply them in the world today. The event is free and open to the public. Creative Activism Workshop & Film Screening
Saturday, April 13

Jamila Raqib will provide hands-on training for organizing, rallying and revolting for peaceful change in the world. The event will also include a screening of How to Start a Revolution, the documentary chronicling the peace theories of Nobel Peace Prize nominee Gene Sharp in action in pro-Democracy groups around the world. Volunteers for Open Streets SLC
Saturday, May 4

Bike SLC is looking for roughly 70 volunteers to help promote a car-free downtown experience on the first Saturday in May. On May 4, 1.5 miles of 300 South/Broadway between 200 East and the Intermodal Hub at 600 West in downtown Salt Lake City will be closed to vehicles so that residents can safely bike, jog, walk, enjoy and explore the heart of the city sans automobiles.
