Bargain Ski Town Dining
Running through Sunday, Oct. 13, selected Park City area restaurants are participating in the Park City Dine About. Similar to Salt Lake City’s Downtown Dine O’Round, participating restaurants are offering three-course dinners for either $15 or $30 per person, depending on the eatery—tax and gratuity are not included. Some 27 restaurants are offering Dine About menus, including most of Bill White’s restaurants (Grappa, Chimayo, Sushi Blue, etc.), Cena Ristorante, Lespri Prime Steak & Sushi Bar, Red Rock Junction, Reef’s, Riverhorse, Shabu, Silver Star Cafe, Tavern and Zoom, to name a few. For a complete list of Park City Dine About restaurants, go to ParkCityRestaurants.com.

Barbera Dinner @ Franck’s
One of my favorite wine varietals is Barbera, which grows in Northern Italy’s Piemonte region. On Sunday, Oct. 13, Franck’s restaurant (6263 S. Holladay Blvd.) will showcase Barbera wines with a special Fall Wine Dinner featuring Bon Vivant Imports’ Brad Jensen and special guest Emiliano Morando from Italy’s Vinchio Vaglio Serra winery. Italian Barbera wines that will be served run the gamut from simple, unoaked, easy-drinking wines to intense, ripe reds produced from 85- to 100-year-old vines. Among the wines poured will be 2011 Cantina Tre Serre Piemonte Barbera, 2008 Vinchio Vaglio Serra “I Tre Vescovi,” 2007 Vinchio Vaglio Serra “Vigne Vecchie” Barbera d’Asti Superiore and Vinchio Vaglio Serra “Pearl Pink Wine” Moscato/Brachetto blend.

Chefs Franck Peissel, Robert Perkins and Adam Vickers will cook up a dinner featuring flavors of the Piemonte with dishes such as antipasti salumi; crispy-skinned Arctic char with squid-ink pasta and octopus-roasted tomato ragu; braised pork short ribs with roasted wild mushrooms and blue-cheese polenta; and hazelnut chocolate mousse with fresh berries and hazelnut caramel brittle. Dinner starts at 6:30 p.m., and the cost is $75 per person ($40 for food, $35 for wine), tax and gratuity not included. For reservations, call 801-274-6264. Quote of the week: “The shared meal elevates eating from a mechanical process of fueling the body to a ritual of family and community, from the mere animal biology to an act of culture.”  —Michael Pollan
