Orchesis Dance Theatre’s Fall Concert is a mixed-bag of choreography from five dance seniors and one member of the dance faculty at Weber State University. One senior, Christine Taylor, was inspired by old-timey Americana for her Porch Swing Railroad, while another, Emily Bokinskie, went a bit darker in Compartmental Theory, taking a look at violence in our modern society and our increasing inability to empathize with those around us.
Two of the other seniors—Annika Black and Brittnie Rivera—utilize multimedia to explore the seven stages of grief in Entomb and the art of deconstruction in Disintegration and Reunification, respectively. Tanya Halbert, on the other hand, presents her dance education thesis, Say It, that includes students from Ben Lomond High School. The lone faculty piece—Cold: A Moving Triptych, choreographed by Amanda Sowerby—uses both a large cast and American Sign Language to “explore the emotional, physical and psychological aspects of her subject.”
