Oh, Nevermind

After reading Althea Jones’ letter “You’ve Been Sprayed” [May 9, City Weekly], I was reminded of the Saturday Night Live routine from back in the 1970s, when poor, hard-of-hearing Emily Litella (Gilda Radner) would come out on Weekend Update and get something completely wrong, leading to a hilarious conclusion. I can hear it now:

“What’s all this I hear about chemtrails being sprayed into our air?”

“Um, Emily? That’s con-trails. The concentrated water vapor from high-altitude jets. It’s harmless. It’s not a government plot, and there are no chemicals involved.”

“Oh. Nevermind.”

Unfortunately, around here, being hard of hearing is not the problem—being hard-headed is.
