New ’Cue
A new barbecue eatery—Sonny Bryan’s Smokehouse—has opened a second Utah restaurant, and Salt Lake City’s first, at 1414 Foothill Blvd. in the Foothill Village Shopping Center. There is also a Sandy restaurant location. Sonny Bryan’s dates back to 1910, when Elias Bryan opened Bryan’s Barbecue in Dallas. Today, there are numerous locations, mostly in Texas’ Dallas-Ft. Worth area. Menu items at Sonny Bryan’s include pulled pork, chicken and beef; barbecued pork ribs; beef brisket; jalapeno sausage; po’boy sandwiches; chicken wings and something called a Frito pie. Year of the Dragon
Mandarin restaurant in Bountiful will hold its annual Chinese New Year celebration for 2012 from Monday, Jan. 23, through Saturday, Feb. 4. The traditional Lion Dance will be performed by an eight-person troupe at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 24, and Wednesday, Feb. 1. The Lion Dance is said to ward off evil spirits and welcome the new year with a bang. In addition to Mandarin’s regular menu, a special Chinese New Year menu will be available for $20 per person (for parties of four or more), featuring items such as black-bean beef, orange-chicken noodle, Mongolian pork with Chinese sausage, chicken Soong imperial lettuce wraps and a homemade ice cream trio: passion fruit, Saigon cinnamon and ginger. Ceago @ Silver Fork
Ceago Winery produces premium, world-class wines from its estate-grown organic and biodynamic grapes, with a mission to “emulate mother nature to create a self-sustaining environment and to handcraft the finest possible crops, grapes and, ultimately, wines.” On Thursday, Jan. 26, Silver Fork Lodge will host a Ceago wine-pairing event featuring Ceago wines and a special dinner menu. Emily Kindred from Young’s Market will be on hand to discuss the wines, Ceago’s grape-growing and wine-producing practices and to answer questions. The cost for the Ceago dinner is $50 per person ($25 for dinner/$25 for wine). Reservations can be made by calling Silver Fork Lodge at 801-533-9977.
