Now in its seventh year, Sundance’s Tree Room Author Series offers a rare chance to listen to an author (like Augusten Burroughs or E.O. Wilson) lecture and discuss their latest work while enjoying a delicious lunch in the resort’s celebrated restaurant.

Slated for this Saturday is author and activist Naomi Klein. As a major critic of the Bush presidency, Klein, in part, is the reason why just mentioning Dick Cheney and his association with Halliburton leaves a bad taste in your mouth from the company’s blatantly unscrupulous war profiteering that occurred in Iraq. Luckily, she doesn’t stop there. In her most recent book—The Shock Doctrine: The Rise of Disaster Capitalism—she takes a hard, critical look at corporate globalization and how the capitalistic philosophies of Milton Friedman and The Chicago School of Economics gain strong footholds in countries experiencing disasters and upheavals. Think Chile and Pinochet, Russia and Yeltsin, Iraq—and even the good old U.S. of A.
