Come support the heady brew of local west-side culture by joining a fund-raiser for the Mestizo coffee shop and art house. Then take part in an opportunity to help find a progressive challenger to Congressman Jim Matheson. Finally, participate in a Westminster forum about living your passion and learning how to make a nonprofit to champion that cause.

Mestizo Coffeehouse fund-raiser
Friday, Jan. 29
Come show some love for the west side by joining the Mestizo Coffeehouse and Mestizo Institue of Culture and Arts for a fundraiser that will include an auction of Milo skate decks, demonstrations by a local glass blower, and even a little music and merriment. The Citizen’s Candidate Public Interview
Saturday, Jan. 30 and Sunday, Jan. 31
Like one of those inspirational sports movies where they draft the team quarterback from an ad in the paper, a coalition of lefties, fed up with Rep. Jim Matheson’s impersonation of a Democrat, are holding a public interview for a candidate to sponsor for Utah’s 2nd Congressional District. A panel will be grilling candidates based on their views of the environment, immigration, social justice and more. Come help with the selection or even try out yourself.

Lessons on Social Entrepreneurship From Three Cups of Tea
Wednesday, Feb. 3
Greg Mortensen, author of the acclaimed Three Cups of Tea and his newest book, Stones Into Schools, is a social entrepreneur. In simple terms, he took a passion for education and turned it into a nonprofit that builds schools across the impoverished regions of Pakistan and Afghanistan. If you have a fire in your belly to make the world a better place, then come and learn how to take the first steps in the right direction.
