Jeff Tweedy
Fans of Jeff Tweedy—of bands including Uncle Tupelo, Golden Smog and, probably most famously, Wilco—are in for a treat at this solo performance, his first ever in Salt Lake City. To say Tweedy is busy would be an understatement, as he fits his solo tours between creating albums and touring with Wilco, but his solo shows give him a chance to be a little freer with his material. Whether it’s a re-imagining of a well-known Wilco song or a deep cut from Uncle Tupelo, Tweedy’s solo sets are always full of pleasant surprises. But no matter what’s on the set list for the evening, listeners will get to experience the work of a highly influential songwriter through only his acoustic guitar, voice and wry sense of humor.

Seve Vs. Evan CD & Video Game Release
For a band whose poppy, synth-y music sounds like it could be the soundtrack to an 8-bit adventure, it makes sense that local duo Severin Bozung and Evan Sharp, aka Seve vs. Evan, would create a video game. This 10-year anniversary show is the official release of Seve vs. Evan Lost in Space—which the band summarizes as “we are lost in outer space trying to find our way back to Earth”—as well as a new/ old album titled The Re-Mix Tapes. It’s made up of music that’s been previously recorded, but has been given a polishing through more professional recording techniques. Cash prizes will also be given out, with $50 going to the best robot costume, and $100 going to the highest-scoring champion of the video game. Das Boo Jah, Oceanear and Chance Lewis will also play.

Suicidal Tendencies
Founded in the early ’80s, this California band might have moved away from their name-making hardcore-punk sound—as heard on classics like “Cyco Vision” and sonic battering ram “Institutionalized”—and branched off into thrash-metal territory, but they hit as hard as ever. Suicidal Tendencies’ latest album, 13—so named because it’s the band’s first new record in 13 years—released in March, marks 30 years of freaking out parents and assaulting fans’ eardrums. It features face-melting metal guitar riffs and slowed-down headbanger beats, but there’s still plenty to mosh and throw elbows to. By the way, frontman Mike Muir might now be 50 years old, but he doesn’t show it in concert at all.Terror, Trash Talk and The Inspector Cluzo will start things off.

Third-Annual Rockin’ Christmas
This charity event for Toys for Tots, put on by local pinup photography studio Pin Me Up, is a perfect opportunity to experience some live music and a glamorous pinup pageant, as well as do some good for needy kids this holiday season. Entertainment will include Elvis tribute artist Victor Trevino Jr. backed by The Wild Ones, as well as local rockabilly and rock acts Utah County Swillers and the Jail City Rockers. There will also be a raffle and auction featuring items from several local businesses, and all proceeds will benefit Toys for Tots. So, put on your blue suede shoes or polka-dot dress, dig deep into those pockets and head on over.

Mic Masters Alliance: The Playoffs Round 7
Emcees Dumb Luck and Playboi Short have beaten every opponent who has crossed their path this year, and tonight, they’ll face off in an epic championship match. The stakes are high: The winner walks away with $1,000, swag and serious bragging rights. Hosted by local emcee Syncronice as well as national big names Dizaster, Aspect One and Malathion, the event will also include battles between Cadalack Ron and Atheist, Pat Maine and Epic90vah, Suspect and Bigz, Denter and JP, and Mikey B and Stupid King, as well as performances by Zigga, Burnell Washburn, and Joey & Jare featuring Chustaxx. Audience members can vote for their favorite emcees through text message.

The Lower Lights
Christmas Concert The Christmas season is in full swing, and The Lower Lights’ fourth-annual Christmas show at the Salt Lake Masonic Temple should be at the top of your list of holiday engagements. Following up their 2011 Christmas-themed album, Come Let Us Adore Him, The Lower Lights have recorded a new set of holiday songs, titled The Lower Lights Sing Noel. Released Nov. 26, the 12 tracks include utterly gorgeous reinvented versions of Christmas classics like “The First Noel,” “The Holly & the Ivy” and “Bring a Torch, Jeanette Isabella,” as well as more modern favorites like Nat King Cole’s “A Cradle in Bethlehem.” The Lower Lights are made up of a rotating case of local musicians, and this iteration includes Jay William Henderson, Sarah Sample, Paul Jacobsen, The Hollering Pines and many more.

Cate Le Bon
In the music video for “Are You With Me Now?” from singer-songwriter Cate Le Bon’s latest album, Mug Museum, hands form clay into spinning lumps on a potter’s wheel, then magically transform those lumps into mugs, and every trimming and decorating process is included, too. Thanks to its imagery, the video has a wonderfully tactile quality that also shines in this musician’s music, with her unique voice at the forefront. Le Bon’s marked accent makes her sound like Nico’s Welsh cousin—Le Bon sings in Welsh as well as English—and her ethereal and delicate but powerful voice will remind listeners of Cat Power. Le Bon will be backed by her full band at this show, and Kevin Morby is also on the bill.

Moe
If you were a sad Moe fan in 2012 when the jam band’s Utah show was sold out, you’re in luck. The New York five-piece is on tour in support of their newest album, What Happened to the La Las?, and returning to the Park City venue they packed to the gills last year. With the new record, Moe saw some big changes to the album-making process, brought on by joining forces with a record label (Sugar Hill Records) for the first time in more than 10 years and bringing in an outside producer for the first time ever. The result showcases the band’s signature get-weird style of creativity, and jumps between styles as disparate as jangly psychedelic and country.
