The Live Green SLC! Festival isn’t just for hippies, neo-hippies and eco-freaks. In its first year as sole organizer, ReDirect Guide is making the eighth annual festival local-centric, engaging and free for everyone. “There’s no baseline assumption that people are already ‘green’ that come,” says co-producer Mike Johnson.

“Fun” is the key word at this fest. “I think people get in the mind that they’re going to eat granola or alfalfa sprouts,” Johnson says. “But they get there and have a great beer and learn why so many companies are making the community a better place. And that’s just fun.”

Beer, of course, isn’t the only gate to funland. For kids, there are educational activities that don’t sacrifice fun. For grown-ups, there are more than 100 booths (City Weekly as a sponsor will have one there as well, showcasing our “Potheads”) where attendees can gather information on solar panels, green vehicles, tax rebates for home efficiencies and more.

Local musicians Daniel Day Trio and The Folka Dots will play as folks sip brews at the Uinta solar-powered beer garden or watch the Eco-Style Fashion Show. Repertory Dance Theatre will demonstrate its Green Mapping Project with an interactive dance about the various states of water. And a screening of Flow will show at noon in the library auditorium. The People’s Green Auction—green products and services with reasonable opening bids—will round out the family-friendly afternoon.
