Thanks to gerrymandering by the Utah State Legislature, Utah’s congressional districts have been redrawn to the point that a moderate politician, let alone a liberal, can be elected to Congress from Utah. For the first time since the arrival of the Mormon pioneers on July 24, 1847, the Salt Lake Valley is becoming increasingly liberal. Yet not one member of Utah’s congressional delegation qualifies as a moderate, much less a liberal. Conservatives will always have a strong voice and vast influence in Utah politics, as they should, but Utah liberals deserve at least one voice representing their interests in Washington. It’s the only fair and just thing to do.
