nIt seems like National Amber Alert Day comes earlier every year. n
This year, however, it’s really something special. The Department of Public Safety and the American Football Coaches Association have presents for K-12 students in every county in Utah: identity kits.
nUnfortunately, an “identity kit” is not as much fun as, say, the Identikits used by law enforcement agencies to create visual representations of criminal suspects based on witness descriptions. (What kid wouldn’t love playing around, making faces with an Identikit?)
nNo, these identity kits consist of fingerprint ID cards and swabs for collecting DNA. No news when or if DNA samples will need to be submitted to the Department of Homeland Security in order “to protect the children.”
nThis is the sort of thing that always drives privacy advocates nuts. At least we can rest easy that mandatory microchipping can be put off until next year.
