Classic tales have been subjected to remakes, rewrites and all-out blasphemy for years. While the film industry has been at the head of this movement, books and theater productions are culprits as well. Sometimes these re-creations take on droves of angry fans who don’t want their beloved story to be butchered, and sometimes they can create an all-new fanbase who couldn’t care less about the sanctity of the original piece. Fortunately for Jacob Marley’s Christmas Carol creator Tom Mula and OurSpace Theatre, all the original fans of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol are dead and gone, so there’s no one left to upset.
This inventive new take on the classic tale stars local acting stalwart Max Robinson in a one-man show playing 16 different characters, including Jacob Marley, Ebenezer Scrooge’s eternally condemned best friend. Marley, who hilariously and tragically attempts to help Scrooge redeem himself, also struggles to find his own redemption.
