I must say, if one were to pick a single issue that sums up what City Weekly is about, the Jan. 12, 2012, issue [“Losing Faith”] would be it.

Its totally cliché cover shows an “evolution” of sorts, from a caveman, to an LDS missionary and, finally, to the hip, urban, liberal, intellectual atheist (complete with turtleneck sweater and glasses) who has shaken off the oppressive chains of religion and embraced the freedom of rational thought.

Something else came to mind that may be familiar to the former LDS missionaries who lost their faith and left the church—the topic of the issue’s cover article. A verse from 1 Nephi Chapter 8 in The Book of Mormon gives the account of Lehi’s vision of the Tree of Life. It reads: “And after they had tasted of the fruit they were ashamed, because those that were scoffing at them; and they fell away into forbidden paths and were lost.”
